Now known at First Baptist Church, the First Colored Baptist Church began as a slave congregation and is one of the oldest African American Baptist churches in Austin. It was officially organized in 1867 by the Reverend Jacob Fontaine. Today, the church is considered to be one of the oldest African American Baptist churches in Austin. The current building is the fourth home for this congregation.
