The garden’s designer and builder, Isamu Taniguchi
Interned at the Crystal City Family Internment Camp during WWII, agriculturalist Isamu Taniguchi planned and constructed a Japanese Garden in the City of Austin’s Zilker Park as a gift to residents and an inspiring monument to international peace. The garden’s flowing waters, ornate limestone outcrops, and botanical arrangements provide a tranquil refuge from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city and preserve the memory of Isamu’s wish for peace.
