Between 1860 and 1880, the economies of Belton and Bell County shifted from subsistence farming to large-scale cattle ranching. During this time, it became a major stop on the Chisholm Trail. The town’s Chisholm Trail legacy is interpreted on several outdoor storyboards, which line the new Hike and Bike Trail along the historic Nolan Creek.
Nolan Creek Hike and Bike Trail
- Trail begins at IH-35 and Confederate Park for 1.25 miles along Nolan Creek, through historic downtown Belton.
