Blanco Bowling Club, ca. 1950s
Lanes are manually operated. Note the pinsetter at the back of the lane.
The Blanco Bowling Club opened its doors in 1948 as a café and nine pin bowling alley. The café served Blanco County residents hot meals and provided space for community events; the nine pin bowling lanes provided practice space for the Blanco Bowling League. The League hosted tournaments that supported and maintained the community of nine pin bowling leagues found in towns and cities throughout the Hill Country, many of which German immigrants to Texas founded. Today, the café still serves burgers, fries, and other bowling alley fare, while the Blanco Bowling Club continues to offer non-automated nine pin bowling for league members and the public.
