Built in 1856, Spanish missionaries of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate conceived and operated this cathedral in service of the Brownsville community. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, the Immaculate Conception Cathedral is a significant architectural asset of South Texas and an object of pride for Brownsville residents.
