Welhausen School, 204 N.E. Lane St.
In 1928-29, long before he served as President of the United States, 20-year-old Lyndon Baines Johnson worked as a teacher and principal at this school, which largely served impoverished Hispanic students. He credited his experience at the Welhausen School as an influence in the future leadership he would provide in support of civil rights and educational reform.
