Immersive and interactive displays transport visitors through the history of the Rio Grande. Greeted by massive mammoth bones representing the area’s prehistory, visitors then experience elements of early Spanish exploration, the era of steamships and cattle ranching, and the arrival of the railroad, irrigation, and large-scale farming. Next to the museum is the Old Hidalgo County Jail.
