La Porte: San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site

Designated as a National Historic Landmark, the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site memorializes the Texan soldiers who fought to achieve independence from Mexico on April 21st, 1836. The San Jacinto Museum of History is housed on the ground floor of the San Jacinto monument—the world’s tallest stone masonry column—and interprets the build up to and execution of this decisive battle.
