Webb County Courthouse, 1000 Houston St.
You will notice both American and Mexican architectural traditions in the eclectic 1909 courthouse. Architect Alfred Giles was English by birth and education. He moved to Texas for health reasons and achieved his reputation designing public buildings using local materials throughout Texas and eventually in Mexico too. As his style evolved, his work incorporated elements of architecture from both sides of the border.
