Presidio de San Saba
Built in 1751, this presidio established Spanish military presence in the region and was met with Commanche resistance, leading to the presidio’s destruction. Rebuilt in 1761, the Presidio continued to serve as a Spanish military outpost until it was abandoned in 1772. The Menard community reconstructed the Presidio in 1937 and it continues to serve as an archeological and historic site open for visitation.
