Rio Grande City: Downtown Historic District

Rio Grande City’s Downtown Historic District is considered one of South Texas’ largest collections of Border Vernacular architecture, featuring the work of notable architect Heinrich Portscheller.  Local cultural leaders provide tours and interpretive classes focusing on the history of the region, which are available to visitors by appointment at the Rio Grande City offices located in the historic Tijerina Courtyard.
