San Antonio: San Fernando Cathedral

San Fernando Cathedral, 115 Main Plaza

Construction began in 1738, making it the oldest such building in the state. However, it was significantly altered during an 18th century expansion, giving the structure a more Gothic style.

As you walk west down the alley along the north side of the cathedral, you will first pass the stone of the 1873 portion of the building. Towards the rear another portion of the cathedral has been restored to its original adobe appearance.
